OLD MOUNT FARM
Architect: IPT Architecture
Client: Private
A replacement dwelling in Kent.
The brief is for a house that can operate ‘off-grid’ and the design includes systems for water supply, waste water management and electricity generation. The 5-acre plot includes significant opportunity for food production.
The new building is to be half buried into a hillside allowing the natural slope to run into the roof. The two and a half storey retaining walls are designed using reinforced blockwork founded on a raft. Above ground the building is timber framed. 10m long sweet-chestnut glued laminated beams span the open plan upper floor.
Construction 2010.
