CHELSEA OPEN AIR NURSERY
Architect: Friend and Company
Client: COANS
A tree house mezanine in a children's nursery in London.
The design incorprates an irregular lattice of intersecting beams, leaf patterned infill panels and glass and plywood balustrades to create additional space within the orginal shell of an Chelsea artist's studio.
The beam profiles were sized according to the bending forces predicted and then laser cut from a 3D building information model. 8m long plates were sourced to avoid butt welds in the beams and avoid distortion.
